I’ve always been both technical and creative, packaged in organization. Program managing within UX Design lets me utilize those skills in the work we do.
I started in 2006 as a Project Manager, which grew into Product Management and then Program Management. Over the years, I’ve worked with fantastic people at Amazon, Microsoft, CenturyLink, Regence, F5, SAP Concur and Alphabroder. The projects have spanned from small and lean to enterprise level initiatives, websites to applications. A wide variety of experiences, but all with the same goal, success for our clients.
I work with the belief that expectations and empathy are a big part of my job. In defining the expectation, I want to make sure that everyone is in lockstep. This helps to find the center of gravity to ground the team’s work. With empathy, I constantly try to put myself in someone else’s shoes to understand the scenario and which direction to take. Knowing when to view high level or get down in the weeds, technical or layman’s terms, fluid or constrained, push or patience.
I’m also the team lead for the rest of the Project and Program Managers. Making sure to define goals and ensures that processes are implemented and up to date. Our jobs are usually surrounded in ambiguity and the unknown, so the more tools and processes in our toolbox, the better.
When I’m not working, I make sure to recharge and enjoy my downtime. I’m typically gaming, finding that next favorite song, dabbling in photography or BBQing with friends.
